When worship occurs
Love him or hate him I’ll never forget a message I heard from Pastor Ted Haggard about God’s enjoyment of his people. Ted was telling the story of being on a pastor’s retreat and a group had gone water skiing. One pastor, a particularily large fellow had fallen off his skis but was still hanging onto the rope. The view Ted described was a great wave and a roaring laughter as the water underneath tickled this joyful pastor.
God whispered to Ted, “I’m enjoying this man more now than I have all during this conference.”
This thought was particularly profound to me. You mean to say God isn’t only pleased with me when I’m “doing Christian things?” For a better understanding of the humorous side of Christian sub-culture please see www.StuffChristianslike.net – a brilliant web-site my wife pointed out to me. ( I get props for mentioning she is the one who discovered this site rather than just trying to steal it as my own discovery, you married men will get that.)
So this led me to the question, “when does worship occur?” For me at least there are these divine moments that just happen; times that cannot be replicated and there is a deep spiritual connection that is inexplicable in that second… something in my soul just knows its occurring. For me these moments occur when I’m rock-climbing at Garden of the Gods, being welcomed home by my 3 daughters, enjoying a beer with my buddies (have you tried Trinity Brewing in the Springs yet?), on a date night with my wife, or at my weekly poker game.
What do those moments look like for you – and what do you suppose makes them so unique?
